From the Pulpit--1 Peter 4

Read 1 Peter 4

Ever watched American Pickers? Then you know how they dig through a big pile of junk and find treasures there. Ever notice how God can do the same thing?
Sure!  He can look past all the junk in our lives and see us as treasures. Now you may need some polishing up or some dusting off. But God can do that, too.

This is what Peter teaches us in 1 Peter 4. Read it again knowing that God is love and "love covers a multitude of sins." (Verse 8) As we try to navigate right from wrong in today's world , it can get very tricky. Do we follow the laws of God or the laws of man? Do we honor the rights of others over our own rights? Peter teaches us to be prepared for these tough decisions and to keep close to God and his word. As long as we are really caring deeply for others, praying, speaking with God's voice, and using our talents to serve Him, then even if we mess up, it will glorify Him.

Like Mike and Frank on American Pickers, God is all about second chances. So, keep trying. Keep trying to get the word out. Keep trying to show others what God can do in their lives. Because, as Peter quotes from Proverbs 11:31, "If the righteous are barely saved, what will happen to godless sinners?"

Consider the rare find of a used (shall we say abused) vintage crash dummy recently found by Mike and Frank. Is it valuable or just junk? Well, it doesn't look like much now, but the world is actually a better place because it did it's job. So, when judging it, one could say THAT is what makes it valuable. How about you? Peter teaches that we will all be judged...is the world a better place because YOU have done your job?
